Greenway Planning

As part of the overall planning effort for the Brooklyn Waterfront Greenway, Brooklyn Greenway Initiative and the Regional Plan Association hosted their first public planning workshop on Tuesday November 9, 2004 from 6:00 – 9:00 PM at St Francis College 182 Remsen Street in downtown Brooklyn.

The workshop was designed to elicit from participants what recreational or other experiences the greenway should enable and where the greenway should be located.

The Draft Conceptual Plan, based on the results of the first workshop was presented for discussion on Tuesday, February 1st, 2005 from 5:00 to 8:00pm at Saint Francis College, 182 Remsen Street in Brooklyn. Email us your comments on the Plan.

Questions about the who and how of the greenway implementation are being addressed by an advisory committee comprised primarily of government representatives.

First Workshop Purpose

  • Introduce participants to the greenway and the issues and opportunities presented by its creation;
  • Articulate an overall goal or vision for the greenway in Community Boards 2 and 6;
  • Identify preferred routes for the greenway, especially for those areas where options are less clear;
  • Suggest design elements and amenities to be included in the greenway

Second Workshop Purpose

  • Present the conceptual plan that integrates ongoing planning with input received at the first workshop and neighborhood forums.

Workshop Participants

Approximately 100 members of the public participated in the workshop, representing a broad diversity of local, city, and regional interests.

Each small working group, composed of 8 - 12 individuals was facilitated by a planner and a designer/landscape architect who were responsible for recording the workshop results on maps and newsprint pads.
